Marama meaning:

These stunning pounamu pendants are shaped like a full moon, highlighting the natural beauty of the stone’s surface. Their minimal and elegant design makes them the perfect complement to other jewellery, while their versatile size ensures they’re easy to wear every day.

Marama, Ahoroa, Māhina, and Atarau are names often used for the moon, which holds significant meaning in te ao Māori. Deeply tied to wāhine and the natural cycles of life, the moon is personified as Hineteiwaiwa, the guardian of fertility and childbirth. Phases of the moon are recognized as Hina-te-ao (light of day) and Hina-te-pō (dark of night), with Hina-keha symbolizing the pale moon and Hinauri the dark moon. This cyclical process was seen as a doorway for spirits to return to their origins. Additionally, the moon played an essential role as a guide in traditional practices such as planting and fishing.

Gifting Pounamu

Pounamu is a tangible expression of love and appreciation, a physical gift that carries the essence of New Zealand's land and culture. Sourced from the heart of Aotearoa, this precious stone serves as a reminder of the significant place we call home, imbued with the rich cultural meaning of Māori whakairo (carving) traditions. When we gift pounamu, we are not only sharing a piece of New Zealand’s history but also intertwining it with our own personal stories, creating a connection that honors both the land and the people we cherish.

We invite you, when gifting a piece of pounamu, to wear it yourself before presenting it to your loved one. During this time, reflect on the blessing they are in your life. As the stone absorbs your skin oils, it will carry a part of you, creating a deeply personal connection that your friend will cherish.
